ZMS secure a non-custodial sentence for an allegation of Revenge Porn

There is a new wave of Cyber Crime giving rise to a raft of relatively new criminal offences including, since April 2015, Revenge Porn: an offence carrying a maximum of 2 years in prison.

ZMS Solicitors have secured a non-custodial sentence for their client charged with ‘Revenge Porn”; another excellent result given the serious nature of the offence.

When a relationship breaks down, emotions are often high and feelings raw – you may spend time going through old texts, photos and videos.

But unless you want to find yourself before the court – Beware before you share!

Uploading intimate sexual images of your ex-partner to the internet, to cause them humiliation or embarrassment is a crime.

Likewise, it’s a crime If you decide to re-tweet or forward a private sexual photograph or film, without the say-so of those on the images, if the purpose was to cause distress to the individuals depicted.

In fact, the sharing of private, sexual photographs or films, where what is shown would not usually be seen in public, is a criminal offence.

Remember – Beware before you share!

But if you do find yourself arrested or charged with an offence involving ‘Revenge Porn’ and need further information or advice, please contact ZMS Solicitors
