Laurette Grace Associate Solicitor
Laurette qualified as a solicitor April 2005, she has always specialised in criminal defence work. Laurette has been at ZMS since 2012.
Passionate about the rights of children and young people she has extensive experience representing youths and vulnerable adults in all criminal law settings. Dual qualified Laurette also works directly with vulnerable children with significant difficulties in her other role as a Mental Health Practitioner within CAMHS (Child and adolescent mental health services).
She works at ZMS as it is a modern and progressive firm with flexible working arrangements that allow her to continue to advance her legal career alongside her other passion of helping those with significant mental health difficulties.
Hard work and dedication led Laurette into this unique dual role. She was initially the youngest volunteer to be trained by the Youth Offending Service volunteering for them, alongside studying for a law degree as well as working part-time in retail! Laurette was then employed as an ISSP (Intensive Supervision and Surveillance Programme) Advocate, which is a role working intensively with the most prolific and dangerous young offenders in Leicester whilst at the same time completing her Legal Practice Course. She enjoyed her ISSP role so much that she continued with this part-time even after qualifying and working full time as a criminal defence Solicitor.
Such experience gives Laurette in-depth knowledge and skills utilised when representing young people at police stations and before the Youth and Crown Court. Laurette has exceptional communication skills which enable her to communicate effectively with children and adults with complex needs and difficulties including ASD, ADHD, anxiety, behavioural and emotional difficulties, depression, developmental delays, Bi-Polar, learning difficulties, OCD, Personality Disorder, Paranoia, PTSD, schizophrenia and all mental health-related difficulties. She is able to understand and interpret information from multidisciplinary perspectives to the advantage of those she represents.
As if that wasn’t enough, Laurette also achieved a distinction in the IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) Systemic postgraduate diploma.
Laurette believes it is fundamental for all individuals to receive high quality legal advice and her experience and knowledge means that she ensures that every client receives this from her.
