How Do You Sleep At Night Doing Your Job?

I wish I had £1 for every time I have been asked that question.  The role of a defence solicitor or barrister is often misunderstood, and many do not understand that anyone can be arrested at any time on suspicion of an offence and may need our expert help.  I spotted this article recently ;-

CPS guidance warns on gang grooming of women

The Crown Prosecution Service has released guidance to address the increasing number of girls and women being groomed by drug dealers. It says that there was a trend where gang members entered into a relationship with a woman and then used her for dealing drugs, and the CPS advised lawyers to consider if there was evidence of women being a victim rather than a perpetrator. Claire Lindley, CPS lead on serious violence, said victims could avoid charges if they had been involved in criminal activity, but added the guidance was not a “blanket” ban on prosecuting.

The Daily Telegraph

This a classic example of a case where it could be your daughter who has been groomed into selling drugs.  Your daughter who isn’t listening to your pleas to stay away from the man in question.  Your daughter who loves him however he treats her and whatever he asks her to do for him.

In these circumstances, wouldn’t you want help for her from a specialist defence solicitor?  Of course, you would.   You would want someone who knows the system, who understands the law and will talk to her about her personal circumstances and relationship,  and who will be her voice in court and be on her side.  To help her on the difficult and traumatic journey through the criminal justice system.

This is just one example of hundreds that I can think of where a vulnerable person finds themselves in trouble and needs the help of a specialist defence solicitor.

How do I sleep at night?  Very well indeed thank you.
